My mom... maybe mentally ill?

this sounds terrible. i am really sorry that you have been put in this situation. you should encourage your mom to get counseling and get help... ask a school counselor what you can do to help her. if you really can't help her, i still wouldn't live on my own at 17. you definitely are not ready. you need to get help from another adult! good luck
