Scottish a nation of animal-lovers?

scotch soldiers/the scotch are sometimes given the deplorable and racist nickname of the sheepsh---ggers. I understand this dates from the napoleonic wars when a scotch regiment was caught in the act in a french field! can anyone name this illustrious regiment- was it the Black Watch?
