Can ping tissue NOT be a sign of impending miscarriage?

Wife has been bleeding on and off for three days. Stops, then starts again. Heard hb during bleeding. Last night, bout of serious vomiting and pain; she ped a clot with small bits of white in it. We are seriously scared.
